I'm thinking of buying an Airnav Radarbox 3D & basically want to know how good it is, is it easy to use ? is it worth the money ?
I've read your guide but not much wiser being a novice, I like the idea of being able to see the plane I am watching instead of being numbers on a screen, at the moment i'm permenantly on flightradar 24 but want something better !! ;D

If you browse through the pages here you'll find that the RadarBox hardware is now only average. Other boxes are more sophisticated and will allow you to detect more aircraft.
The software is buggy and the network server not particularly reliable, and don't get me started on customer service!
If your hearts set on 3D the you could look at the Aurora box and compare that to what AirNav's box offers.

I will check out the Aurora box & thanks for your info about Radarbox.
When i've been to my friends & seen his SBS-1 it just looks so confusing, where as with the 3D one you can see the planes.
I've only been watching planes for about a year so the 3D seems easier to understand although gimmicky !!
Obviously I don't want to spend that much money without checking it out 1st, I only know 1 person with a Radar type thing so thought i'd better look for a forum where people know more about this type of thing.
Maybe I should stick to watching Flight Radar ;)
If you think the SBS-1 software looks confusing you may find the 3D even more so.
My advice is to "test drive" all the options, either a friend's setup or at a dealer. We all have different interests and preferences and before spending up to £500 on a receiver and software it's best to get some hands-on experience.
The AirNav 3D software is resource hungry so you'll need a high-end PC and graphics. From what I've read, the majority don't bother with 3D so you may be spending extra for something you may not like or can't run with everything turned on.
An alternative to 3D might be using Virtual Radar Server with Google maps/satellite views, similar to Planefinder and Flightradar24. VRS is a free add-on that works with the SBS-1 and, I believe, with RadarBox.
