Message from Bev at COAA:

Hi

PlanePlotter version 6.4.5.1 is on the web site now.

http://www.planeplotter.com#download

I have released it sooner than I would otherwise have done because some users have emailed me to say that their security system reports malware in version 6.4.4.9.

Nic S discovered that the utility upnppw.exe, which has always been included in the installation package for years, was responsible for triggering the alert from some security systems. The utility was provided to help users to configure port forwarding with the minimum of fuss The utility was useful but like many tools, it could be used for malicious purposes and so some of the security systems have just recently decided to blacklist it.

This release of PlanePlotter therefore omits that utility, which is a pity as it was useful if UPnP was enabled in the router, making port forwarding a simple matter. I hope that will mean that only the usual "This file is unknown and could be dangerous" message will appear when you install this version.

---Usual boilerplate---
Updates are free to registered users.

You may need to exercise your browser Refresh function to force it to show you the new version of the PlanePlotter web page. If you post a message complaining that the web site is still pointing to an earlier version, you pay a forfeit!

You can install the new version over the old one but you *must* close/exit PlanePlotter before installing the new one. Your settings will be preserved. Nic's installer will warn you if PlanePlotter is still running when you try to install the new version.

If you have a version-specific firewall (eg Zone Alarm), you may have to reassure it that the new version is permitted to access the Internet. Be aware that an increasing number of security systems treat any new file as a threat without any justification except that it is new. Please don't write to me about it; write to your ecurity system provider and ask them to make their program smarter.

If you have an installation of PlanePlotter running under Linux/Wine, this installer may not run. In that case (only), please download :
http://www.coaa.co.uk/planeplotter6_4_5_1.zip and unzip the files into the existing PlanePlotter application directory. Note that this will only work if PlanePlotter is already installed under Wine as it only contains the new executable and not all the other files that are required to run the program.

New in version 6.4.5.1

Omit upnppw.exe

As noted about, this useful little utility was triggering security alerts on a few systems and so has been omitted from the package..

Terrain background for outlines and orthographic views

The terrain background option, which was introduced recently, can now be enabled on regular outlines as well as orthomorphic views.

QNH

A bug in the automatic download of QNH has been fixed

Units

A bug meant that the status bar distance readout on a chart remained in nautical miles even when the Options..Units..Metric option was selected. The metric readout was correct on outlines but wrong on charts. That is now fixed.

Enjoy!
