I've used a band-pass filter to reduce RF interference when using a DVB-T SDR "dongle" but don't need it in my rural location where there is no interference.

I'm not aware of a filter that can improve the range of the SBS-3 which probably has an in-built filter.

What filter were you thinking of using?

I already got 2 of the flightaware filters and work very well also been thinking of using the Uptronics HAB 1090MHZ ADSB Preamp with a bias-tee..

Ah, that's different.  I use a masthead preamp and Bias-T from Wimo and tested a similar kit a few years ago.
