Title: SBS-3 SDR
Post by: jim_thewoodrows.org on June 06, 2012, 11:40:24 AM
Hi All,

I am looking for some advice, please?  I currently use the Digital Audio for straming ATC and ACARS to my computer.  Is it possible to use both Analog Audio and Digital Audio at the same time?  Reason for the question is that I am looking at the option to feed Live ATC, but they need an analogue feed through a sound card.

Do you have an SBS-3?

Are you using the Basestation ACARS decoding or feeding audio to another application?

Hi Anmer, Yes, I have an SBS-3 and currently feeding ACARS to Basestation using SDR3 and 4.  I am using SDR 1 and 2 for listening to ATC all using Digital.  I would like to feed the ATC feeds to the Liveatc.com web site as well as listen to them on my local PC.

My understanding is that invoking the Basestation ACARS message window triggers the decoding of the messages for the ACARS frequencies which are passed to Basestation without the need to use a soundcard or audio streaming.

Therefore (I will try and test later), selecting an ATC or othernon-ACARS frequency should output that audio via the soundcard or audio streaming.

How the SBS-3 knows which frequencies are ACARS is a mystery unless they're hard coded?

Thanks, You are correct opening the ACARS window does trigger the feed without having to use VLC.  I may have confused the issue by mentioning ACARS.  My question is more around can I use both the Analog Feed and Digital feed at the same time?  If I run a cable to a sound card, can I use that analog feed at the same time as using the Digital audio?

I don't have a definitive answer and would have to test it.

Have you tried yourself?

Good quaestion.  Not, yet.  I would need to take the box down and make up a cable.  Before I dismantled my setup, I thought I would ask to see if anyone had tried it.

OK, hold fire, I'll do a test here as everything is close to hand.
