JETPHOTOS WEBSITE
« on: July 08, 2020, 10:41:13 AM »
Hi Guys,

I have just noted a change to the picture type when using Jetphotos, instead of allowing to save as .jpg they are all coming up with the .webp extension which will not allow them to be saved for local use. Is this a change to their website or is it a result of the latest changes to the Windows recently update browser?

Hi Mike

I suspect it's a change to the Jetphotos' website as it's the same with Firefox and Chrome.

But it only applies to the thumbnail.  If you click on a thumbnail to show the full-size image, you can save it as a jpg.

Alternatively one can copy the thumbnail and paste into an image editing application and then save it in a suitable file format.

I was blaming windows because every time the do an update it takes at least a week before my laptop will allow me direct access to my files on the Den PC.

It's a new-age browser thing. Encodes and delivers images in that format to save space/quality.

(Apparently paint can open and re-save them)

Not tried it myself, as I always do the view source or open in new tab to get the *real* URL/image. But apparently you can install an addon called 'save as png' which lets you rt click and dig the source out/convert on save

Or a user-agent addon to fake for that site that you don't have a smart browser that can make use of webp

Hahah well that worked..
Quote
1. Open the image link on another tab
2. Put "?" after the extension (jpg, png, etc). Example: myimage.com/image01.jpg?
3. Reload the link
4. Save the file as jpg, png, etc instead of webp.

Tested on Chrome. If it doesn't work, include any number after ?

I put ?1 after the .jpg once opened in tab - voila.

I don't follow.

If I right mouse click on a thumbnail and choose Open Link in New Tab, the full size image still defaults to a .webp file when I choose Save Image As.

Your quote says:

Quote
2. Put "?" after the extension (jpg, png, etc). Example: myimage.com/image01.jpg?
3. Reload the link
4. Save the file as jpg, png, etc instead of webp.

Where do you put the ?  In the browser address bar or after the .webp if you choose Save Image As?  The example shows the ? after .jpg.  I don't see where that appears?

Just done random tests and some full size images default to .webp and others to .jpg.

Maybe there's an ongoing conversion in progress in the Jetphotos db?

I don't follow.

Yes, the URL. The 'address' will show a large image separately opened ending in .jpg.
But the browser caches/steals it during load so save-as gives you a different result. The ?1 at the end appears to force to cache the entire image as the original format. So save-as then allows you to get it as a jpg

It requires the full image. Not a thumb or windowed view

Full process.
Open thumb new tab so full/larger view
Like https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9787094
Rt-click
'Open image in new tab' (in chrome at least - not link)
Add ?1 to end of the URL.
Enter to load that new URL
Rt-Click save-image-as
Presented with JPG

https://cdn.jetphotos.com/full/6/24880_1594157133.jpg = .webp on save-as
https://cdn.jetphotos.com/full/6/24880_1594157133.jpg?3 = .jpg on save-as
