PA31 N628HA is somehow pinging the above OZ code (VH-EPX) when it should be A834A5 !! It has no Australian history so no real explanation !

Perhaps it's been fitted with a Transponder that was once in VH-EPX and the technician didn't change the DIP switches.  Once intalled, it's generally not possible to change the code without removing it again.

I don't know of they are a standard fit but VH-EPX was a helicopter and the other is a PA31

Interestingly enough, but 71C673 should be on a P68C c/n 513/c VH-EPX with the Reg being used the 3rd time around,
Don't know if that's added to any confusion over the Hex Code or helped.

Regards

Ian

Looking at the two hexcodes in binary format, there does not seem to be any overlap.

Other miscodes are usually just a 0/1 interchanged (perhaps a couple of times).

The differences between these two would have to be a random setting of the switches to give the wrong hexcode.

Simplest to believe a box moved to another aircraft.
