I guess it could be just a matter of personal preference, which isn't always based on cost alone?

Yes, I agree.

I still run BaseStation off an SBS-1eR.  Plus, for many (and I see this elsewhere), setting up an RPi based receiver feeding data via middleware (ModeSMixer for example) is a challenge.

I haven't found time to do this yet and even PlanePlotter can be a step too far for some, including members here.

Each to one's own.  It's great that we have options and choices.  In 2005 we didn't.

Only just read about the sbs 1 er for sale on ebay.
How much did they sell for , i might sell mine , if i can get a decent price .
