From Bev,

Hi,

PlanePlotter version 6.4.8.8 is on the web site today.
http://www.planeplotter.com#download

---Usual boilerplate---
Updates are free to registered users.
You may need to exercise your browser Refresh function to force it to show you the new version of the PlanePlotter web page. If you post a message complaining that the web site is still pointing to an earlier version, you pay a forfeit!
You can install the new version over the old one but you *must* close/exit PlanePlotter before installing the new one. Your settings will be preserved. Nic's installer will warn you if PlanePlotter is still running when you try to install the new version.
If you have a version-specific firewall (eg Zone Alarm), you may have to reassure it that the new version is permitted to access the Internet. Be aware that an increasing number of security systems treat any new file as a threat without any justification except that it is new. Please don't write to me about it; write to your security system provider and ask them to make their program smarter.

New in version 6.4.8.8

Longstanding bug fixed

For a long time, there has been a propensity for shared aircraft to make the occasional small jump backwards on the chart.  This tended to occur near the boundary of coverage where locally received aircraft were in the process of being replaced by shared aircraft.  It was caused by a position report incorrectly having its time tag updated when the position itself had not been updated.  This version fixes that phenomenon.

Obviously the 'jumping plots' will only disappear completely when all users are on the latest version.  Apart from the cosmetic effects, this may also have affected the quality of Mlats, especially where an aircraft was at the limit of coverage of Ground Stations.  For that reason, I would strongly urge all Ground Stations to adopt the latest version as soon as possible.  Thank you.

User defined timeout on automatic chart repainting

The option to repaint a chart or outline when it has been zoomed or dragged, has hitherto had a fixed timeout of 5 seconds after which the repaint would occur (if enabled).
At a user's request, that time is now user defined by selecting  Options..Chart..Auto chart refresh..Set timeout.  The Enable for the feature is now one level down at Options..Chart..Auto chart refresh..Enable.
