Shimstelle

Good morning

I am new to Radar spotting software and not very tekkie :-)

I recently bought a Flightstick and would like to use is connected to Planeplotter.
Is software required and is there any install guides available ?

Thanks

Shimon

Welcome Shimon.

The AirNav Flightstick is a software defined radio (SDR), often called a "RTL2832 DVB-T dongle".

This link says that PlanePlotter will work as follows:

https://www.coaa.co.uk/planeplotter.htm

   RTL2832 DVB-T dongle with dump1090 for Windows
RTL2832 DVB-T dongle with Dump1090 for Raspberry Pi or Linux

Decide if you want to run Dump1090 on a PC or Raspberry Pi (RPi).

Personally, I've found installing FlightAware's PiAware on an RPi the easiest install and setup for PlanePlotter.  But others will have different opinions.

The extra cost of the RPi is worth it for an unattended, reliable 24x7 Mode-S receiver:
