Hi i am trying to listen to the internal radio is this possible when i am connected to the PC via the USB option or do i have to be connected via its ethernet port in which case i would need the program to change the IP of the SBS1ER.

Welcome.

You should be able to tune the radio via the USB cable.

Plus you need to connect a VHF antenna and the means to hear the audio.

If you have BaseStation installed, the Reference Manual explains how to power, tune and listen to the SBS-1eR radio.  It's covered in a great level of detail.

Thank you for the welcome and response the only prob i have now is when i click play on the VLC player i get the error "Codec not supported:
VLC could not decode the format "s16b" (PCM S16 BE)" any ideas please?

I haven't tried using the radio for many years.

From memory, VLC needs to connect to the PC running BaseStation.  When I tried it was always flaky.  Do you have any earphones or speakers you could try?

I find Running A Cheap pair of Powered Computer Extension Speakers work the best, Pluged direct into the back of the SBS unit.
Far less hassle, Im pretty sure I only paid about £4 for the Speakers.

I do have both BaseStation and VLC player running on the same PC, i can get the audio fine by plugging in headphones directly to the box,but it was really the streaming audio i wanted to get working.Big thanks again for your help guys.

All my posts about VLC were on the Kinetic forum which, unfortunately, is no longer available.

I remembered I wrote a SBS/BaseStation Guide a few years ago which I never got around to publishing.  It has a section on using VLC which I have attached.  It may help?

Hi,

I've been having 'fun' with this and I haven't got much hair left to pull out...

However, here are my settings which appear to work, though the audio quality is leaving a lot to be desired.

Kit:=

SBS-1er running the latest firmware

Asus Windows 10 i7 laptop - running the latest version of BaseStation v1.2.4.184

The SBS-1er is connected by its ethernet port directly to a spare port on my router. The laptop is on a WiFi connection to the same router. The router is NOT set-up to do any port forwarding.

BaseStation:-

Settings, Hardware Settings, Radio:-

RTSP Port: 30009 [the default 554 does NOT work)

Default UDP Port: 5004

Destination IP Address: 127.0.0.1

Destination Port: 1234


VLC

Open Network Stream:-

rtsp://127.0.0.1:30009


You will note that on the radio panel in BaseStation the STREAMING logo will light up in Yellow, as opposed to being rather dark and not yellow.

When bandwidth is pushed the audio slows down rather than dropping out. Its like listening to a record player with a wonky motor!
