SBS and Enhanced Mode S

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this, please?

Programs like Dump1090 and RTL1090 (with a dongle attached to PC) are able to receive Enhanced Mode S data (FMS selected heading and altitude) and display it in real time. From my understanding, the same signal can be received at the same time by SBS/Basestation on the same PC but there seems to be no way of displaying the data?

Anyone know if its possible to use the Enhanced Mode S data within Basestation or does the hardware ignore it? Could the dongles have something "extra" inside which enables it to receive such data?

I think the SBS-3 may output this data (see 6.1 of the Reference Manual) but BaseStation doesn't.

The BaseStation app/software hasn't been updated for a very long time and Kinetic has lost interest.

Have you tried running an app that can process the enhanced data from the SBS-3?

Thanks Anmer, I have an SBS-1 only so can't try your suggestion unfortunately.

I wonder at which point the data is ignored as it must reach the antenna and then be filtered off by the SBS before it gets to Basestation.

I think the SBS-1 is doing the decoding and not processing those messages.

I have an SBS-1er and it certainly receives those messages. It is BaseStation that is not configured to display them. PlanePlotter (e.g.) takes the datastream from the SBS-1er on port 30006 and displays them without issue (see image below). If I recall you need to tick the boxes in the BaseStation software as per the other image below to pass that data to PP.

You might be able to use something else, VRS? does that display the additional data? I don't use it so don't know.

I'll update my earlier statement:

I think the SBS-1/3 (and maybe Puck) are doing the decoding but BaseStation isn't processing those messages.
