Has anybody had any experience of updating this phone to Windows 10?
It was never very successful when I purchased it some 3/4 years ago but I came across it whilst looking for something else and wondered whether or not I could give it a second life. Any input would be appreciated, could be a "lockdown" project!!

Yes- Microsoft then arbitrarily, as usual, ceased support  on Windows 8.1 and left users with something that was essentially obsolete.
Google offers many suggestions on resolving this problem and the reason I asked this question was to enquire as to whether anybody had had any success with this upgrade.

Wasn't the Nokia Lumia 940 released as a Windows 10 Phone?

If it was released as a Windows 10 phone what's the issue?

My understanding of this the initial launch of this phone was running Windows 8.1,which is the versu-iov I have, the Windows 10 variant was released when support for Windows 8.1 ceased.

Thanks Mike,I have been following the many work arounds suggested via that link on and off for sometime with no success and as I say I asked the question on the half chance that someone may have been successful on this update. it would seem that basically there are two lines of thought on this subject yes it can and no it cannot be done.
It's no big deal I wins just pursuing it as a something to do project!
Thanks for your input.

Hi Graham

I didn't look too deep but does that link recommend an upgrade path for the phone?

Mike- There is a plethora of fixes to this problem on Google,You Tube etc. those few I have tried with no success. Microsoft suggest using an app called OTC Updater which I have downloaded, this app allows you to install the update on a stand alone device which you then connect to the recipient phone via a USB cable and when you start the app it updates the phone, {thats the theory!}.When launched it starts in a Command Prompt window so far so good, but after 15 seconds or so the program comes to a stop and flags up an impossibly long error message and searching for fixes it seems you have to go into the registry. At this point you have to accept your own limitations so I proceeded no further! One odd thing about this OTC app I run two desktops one running Win 10 PRO and the other on Win 10 the OTC loaded OK on the latter but steadfastly refuses to talk to the PRO version where it flags up a message"This program will not run on this computer"
Thank you for your ongoing interest I will persevere to such times as to when the skies become more active😄
