A pilot killed when his light aircraft hit power lines in Cambridgeshire may have been unaware the lines were there, an air accident report has said.

I know those pylons only too well and was taught to keep above them at 300 feet AGL on approach to runway 25.  But runway 25 has been replaced by 24, which has a much longer displaced threshold to the east, towards the pylons.

The pylons and powerlines are clearly marked on charts but the pylons don't line up with the runway and the powerlines could be overlooked on finals, especially by someone not familiar with the airfield.

A Cessna Caravan had just taken off using the displaced threshold and this could have been a contributing factor?

I've just got back from France where powerlines typically have large spheres attached to make them more visible.

Sad to say someone lost his life.

Always a sad loss when someone dies in an aviation accident.

Like yourself Mike, was told at low level always be wary of power lines.
