Just went to www.airframes.org, as I do numerous times each day and this is what I found.

Looks like German bureaucracy has gone a step too far.  Poor Ralf, after all his hard work and support of our community:

Airframes.org has been shut down

On 2021-11-04 2359 I received a letter from
CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security
Stuhlsatzenhaus 5
66123 Saarbrücken
Germany
https://notify.cispa.de/
stating that airframes.org allegedly has a "data protection issue"
"Use of third-party cookies without consent notice"
and providing the helpful hint that
"Fines for noncompliance with ePrivacy requirements may vary depending on national laws."
which I consider threatening.
They call it "research", however.

That Helmholtz entity can't be trusted in any way, as they blatantly lie right into my face: they offer an "anonymous feedback" through a personalized link. Doh!
Apparently, there are different "data protection issue"s, good ones and bad ones.

They promised to re-check this site "to verify if the issue has been fixed", and I don't want to be denounced in any way.

So, finally, the "issue" has been fixed and this site is clean now.
Case closed.

I am sorry.

Damn those Germans with there Privacy rules.. I have be living there in the past and some rules / laws are crazy. Like google street view is not working in Germany. Even the use of a dashcam can be fined with 150 euro (i had it in the past 2 times) all to do with privacy.

I  hope for the website owner he can re-start the website in a other country with less rules / laws about this issue. I used this site in combi with blackswan everyday when i see a ModeS with no info.

@Anmer do you know the owner? If so ask him to move his server/data to Netherlands or other country.

Yes, I "know" Ralf and have already made some suggestions and offered help where I can.

I remember a friend who lived in Germany receiving complaints about cutting his lawn on a Sunday!

Oke i hope you can help him, the site was great for info for our hobby

Yes even washing your car on Sunday is not done. It is even like when you are with family in a theme park and you take picture of your family and share it on facebook and 1 person see him self they can make a complain at the police. Privacy okey it is a thing, but you can go a bit to far with privacy... But this has to do with the past WW2 and the old Stasi in the past (i think)

I've twice emailed Airframes.org with offers of help but no reply.  I've used email addresses that worked in the past.

If anyone here is in contact with Ralf could they ask him to get in touch?

Thanks.

Hi

Ralf made a post on mode-S.groups.io about his situation on Sunday afternoon, the email address the post came from was r61<at>airframes.org.
Steve

Anmer

Thanks Steve, I'll try that email address too.

This morning I refreshed Airframes.org (as I do everyday) and I'm benig asked to login.  My Airframes login isn't accepted.

Does anyone know if there's been any developments such as a new, members only site?

As mentioned already Ralf did make a post on the groups.io ModeS group just after he shut down the site. Towards the end of his post he did say he "might" open the site up again to those few that had sent him a donation at some point.  Perhaps that is what he has now done?

Steve

Anmer

Thanks Steve

If it's only available to those who sent donations, there can't be many "members".  He mentioned he'd had very few donations.

All my emails to Ralf went unanswered.  Pity.

Hi Mike / All

As a couple of members have said on this group that an email was posted onto the Mode-s group,
Here is the email posted by Ralf so make what you will of it.

I am very sorry.
And just a few words of explanation:

Being aware that this site does not meet the latest European bureaucrat
and national law cookie requirements, the site did run very well below
the radar for quite a long time, as I trusted my users to not denounce it.
Until this self-appointed cookie-police showed up.
I could not fix that cookie stuff within a day, so I just shut the site
down.

The most important factor here on my end is time.
Being an old man (even being called "old white and toxic" recently),
some day I realized that my remaining life time is limited. [Well, it is
in fact limited for young guys, too, but they rarely seem to think about
it.]
My personal preferences today are, that I rather go out with my young
puppy hunting dog http://www.airframes.org/puppy.png
strolling through the woods and fields and showing him the world and
training basic skills, than sitting at my desk trying to fix a buggy web
page code (43000 lines of PHP code for the web front end (besides 1100
lines shell code and 22000 lines Perl code in the back end) for nothing
but to adapt it to the sick demands of apparently braindamaged European
and national bureaucrats.

Perhaps the site will be up again in a few weeks, or months, as time
permits.
Did I say, that I am tired of all this?
Yes, I am.

Anmer

Thanks for sharing Ralf's post on the Mode-S Group.  It was helpful and I can easily relate to his comments.

We're all getting old, starting from the day we were born.  But as we age, the invincibility of youth dissipates and is replaced by the reality of our impending demise.

I too am of an age when I have to think seriously about the future of this forum and if and how it should continue when I'm gone.

I've spent the best part of two days exploring how to build an interface to a server based aircraft database, such as that behind SBS-1 Populate.  It makes my brain hurt and I have to ask myself if I really want to go there.  Time will tell.

Think of it on a positive note Mike,
