SBS-1e won't change to new ip address

I have been running my SBS-1e successfully for 10 years or more with no problems.  It was connected by ethernet cable to the router and the standard ip address of 192.168.1.170 worked fine.

I have now installed a new network and the sub net is different (192.168.68.XX).  So, using an old router with the old subnet I've connected a laptop and the SBS-1e.  This allows me to run the Lantronix XPort web page.  It identifies as version 1.6.0.2.

On the Network page, I can set the new IP address to 192.168.68.170, subnet 255.255.255.0, and default gateway to 192.168.68.1. When I click OK, it responds with Done.  On the Channel 1 Connection page I can set the Local port to 10001. Clicking OK responds with Done.  All other pages have been left alone.

When I click Apply Settings, the page clears, with Error 404.

However, before I move it to the new network, a ping to the old ip address shows it is still active, and the XPort software still opens on the old address.  So it has not updated the ip address.

I have seen references in other posts to a utility which can reset the SBS-1e.  Is this utility still available?
Is my Lantronix software the wrong revision?

Is there anything else I can do?  Any help would be gratefully received.

Regards, Phil

What version of Basestation and SBS-1 firmware are you running?

The utility you refer to only resets the SBS-1 IP address to the default 192.168.1.170.

Is the above using the Lantronix XPort?

I believe it is ver 124.1.184.  Yes, I'm using Lantronix XPort.

Thanks.

Are you applying the procvess shown in this guide:

https://radarspotting.com/forum/index.php?action=tportal;sa=download;dl=item41

I've just connected an SBS-1eR and opened the XPort manager using the default IP address of 192.168.1.170 which I can ping succesfully.

When I try changing the IP address I too get a Error 404 result!

This is my XPort "Network" screen.  Is yours the same?

I've done some Googling to no avail.  I have no idea what's preventing XPort Manager from seeing the existing IP address and changing it.

I'll see if I have a cross-over Ethernet cable and try connecting the SBS-1eR directly to the PC and then give it a go.  It might take me a while to try this so you may want to give it a go yourself?

Thanks for trying. I really appreciate it.  I did actually try various things as follows, all to no avail:

1. Windows laptop and sbs-1e connected by ethernet cable to local router using Lantronix XPort in Chrome browser
2. As above using Microsoft Edge browser
3. Windows laptop connected directly by straight ethernet cable to sbs-1e
4. As above with crossover ethernet cable

1 & 2 gave successful pings and display of the Lantronix XPort software
2 & 3 both failed ping test

I guess I might need to change my network sub net , but I was hoping to avoid that due to the distuption it will cause on the network.

May I ask why a fixed IP address is used?  The Lantrox XPort software appears to allow DHCP assigned addresses.  Also, should I try applying default factory settings ?  Or do I risk not being able to connect at all, and then needing your reset utility?  I guess as you're having the same symptoms as me, it is unlikely that both our sbs-1es have failed the same way.

I'd be grateful if yu or anyone can think of anything else to try.

As a suggestion, if you can't get the IP to update... change the subnet on the router/network to 192.168.1.xx

[EDIT] - I seen that you already self suggested that, apologies.

I assume Kinetic made that choice.  But whether it's a fixed paramenter I don't know.  I've never come across anyone reporting they were able to get a different IP address assigned by DHCP.

I was tempted to apply the default settings but chickened out!

Interestingly, XPort Manager doesn't work with the Ethernet port on my SBS-3.  I also tried different browsers as you did.

Last time I used XPort Manager (many years ago) I had no problems.  The one thing that's changed is my Windows version!

I did find a Telnet option but didn't attempt any changes as it doesn't work via a router:

Just an update.

I got an old Windows 7 laptop and tried using that with my local router.  This time, when I opened the Lantronix XPort software with Internet Explorer, all of the boxes on the screen were populated, as expected.  I changed the values in accordance with the procedure and it worked fine.  The final screen, instead of being blank except for Error 404, now said to wait while the unit reboots.  After that, ping to old address failed, as expected.  Put SBS-1e on new network and ping to the new address works!

And it's working with Basestation!

This is a brilliant result.  Must be an incompatibility with the newer versions of windows or bowsers.  Thank you all for your help, especially Anmer, who is always eager and ready to help solve problems.

Wow, my dumb theory was correct.  I would have tried this myself but I don't have an older version of Windows available.

Strange as all we're doing is accessing the XPort via a browser.  But the only change since it worked before is a later version of Windows (and updated browsers).

Thank you so much for updating the thread.  One to note for future reference.
