Military pay isn't the greatest. Why stay on active duty as a pilot making say making $85,000 to $125,000 a year when you can go work for the airlines and make two to three times the money or even more. Many pilots op for both staying in the reserves which allows them to fly the fun stuff. Airline hours are much better compared to active duty hours.

Not sure the military can really do anything to address this problem. Even if they matched the pay of the airlines the hours away from home can be either hours, days or even months. Being at sea for 6 plus months takes it toll.

This issue impacts all of our military branches not just the Air Force.
