BA acquired 42 slots at Heathrow as a result of IAG's takeover of BMI and it has used almost all of them for domestic routes. There is huge capacity on the London - Scotland routes. This winter it has increased the number of flights per day, increasing the number of passenger seats available by 27,000 a week. It has also introduced more flights a day from Heathrow to Manchester and Leeds.

The new Virgin services to Scotland will be flown by Aer Lingus with four A320 aircraft on wet lease.
