Plastic matting is being laid at Land's End Airport more than a month after it closed due to a saturated grass runway, it was announced today.

The airport, which serves the Isles of Scilly, has been shut since December 14 on every day but one due to waterlogging.

Skybus, which operates the service to St Mary's, said today it would remain closed until at least Monday, January 21, with all flights being diverted via Newquay Cornwall Airport.

The airfield, which has suffered some of the worst weather problems in its history since the end of October when the rival helicopter service stopped, will then be inspected and the situation reviewed.
