One of the interesting aspects of setting up the PP SMUs is that you unearth the odd
characteristic of different routers.

It has come to light that Sky , break a users ADSL connection each morning around 0200 GMT to carry out certain "processes" one of which "may" be to farm the users viewing habits/preferences.

Its long been thought that certain providers do this , but never been proved.

Ever since Sky introduced the phone line connection requirement , there have been rumours about them interrogating systems in the middle of the night for marketting purposes.
These days its a bit like the cookie system...but targetting your TV viewing habits.

Speculation ?

Well think about it.......with the cookie sytem gathering data about you while you are browsing , the sat TV system will be monitoring which channels you watch, what your interests are and any interactions you make via the handset buttons.

That info , combined with all the details you submitted to them when you applied , makes quite a handy cache.

If you think all this is rather far fetched......just search THOIC  to see waht else they get up to....alledgedly !
Then look in your router log to see if your system closed down for a short time during the early hours  ;)
If it did take a note of the codes...and ask Sky what they mean.

Sky are now trialling Adsmart....it will target you with adverts that
are tailored to your viewing

They say ................................

We'll take some of the information you have provided to us as a Sky
subscriber (such as post code or TV package) to build up an idea of what
types of products and services might be of interest to you.

Hmmmmmmm.......
post code or TV package   and other bits ????????
