Good morning, Gentlemen,

I've managed to install RTL1090 software and the Globe S display.
Whilst the RTL1090 software chugs away reasonably happily, I can't get the Globe S display to show any visual representation of the data being provided. The phrase 'Searching RTL1090' shows permanently at the top right hand corner. I might be barking up the wrong tree here (it has been known) but I sense that configuration of Ports might be at the root of it.

Dongle is one of these, BTW:

If one of you esteemed and spiffing chaps could assisit here, I would be very grateful.**

Ta!

Managed to sort it out, Gentlemen.

Thanks for reading, anyway. ;D

Was it setting the port 30003 output?

Hallo Mike,

Thanks for your response. I'm sorry for not getting back to you more promptly, but only a minute or two after my last posting I had to dash out and I've only been back in long enough to grab a bite to eat and spend a few minutes here.

I'm afraid that Ports are something of a mystery to me and I was thrown by the Config dialogue box showing Port 31021, and that on the Globe S program showing 31008. In my ignorance I assumed that these had to be the same, which does not appear to be the case, and the default values are restored.

The problem was that the RTL1090 interface (Globe S) did not have anything entered in the 'Table 2' box. When I 'cottoned on' as to what was required and entered the correct details, it sprang into life.

I've spent a few minutes tweaking the labels to my requirements but I can't get it to show aircraft types. Do I have to acquire a database from somewhere?

For a little over ten quid and a bit of thought, it's a very good system. Having said that, the PC doesn't see the dongle on occasions and it needs to be removed and started up again to get on speaking terms with Globe S.

Think I might push the boat out and buy another one for radio use.

ETA: Just noticed in the 'Readme' (which I didn't) that an SQB file can be added. Will give some thought to that when I've settled into the system a little more.

If I might be allowed a supplementary question?

The RTL1090 software works OK but I just wonder if I have arrived at the right destination by the wrong route.

It doesn't exist in C/Programs but has to be launched by the short cut icon in the extracted files folder in Documents. I've put the icon from that folder on the Desktop so it launches OK but the installation as it stands doesn't seem quite right. I've had a couple of fraught days and the old brain box doesn't tick over as smoothly as it once did, so I've probably missed something obvious.

Over to you, Gentlemen.

I have the RTL1090.exe and related files in a dedicated folder and have created the shortcut from there.

What "doesn't seem quite right"?

Good morning, Anmer.

On reflection, "doesn't seem quite right" wasn't the best form of words. The software works perfectly, it just seems odd that a program launches from a folder in documents (or a shortcut copied to the desktop) and there isn't any presence in the usual C/Programs folder.

Perhaps I should adopt the old engineering principle of 'working well so leave it alone' but I'd be interested in your thoughts.

RTL1090.exe doesn't install on your PC.  No registry entries, just runs from the exe file.

Same as the FR24 feeder and Jetvision's SBSPlotter, amongst others.

Thanks, Mike. I'm grateful to you for that.

I've had a bit of a hectic couple of days (circs beyond my control) and fitted in computer time in between events. Consequently, I wondered if, in my haste, I had made an error somewhere along the way.

Thanks again,
