A Boeing 777 aircraft has crash-landed at San Francisco international airport.
There is no word so far on casualties. The aircraft operated by the South Korean airline Asiana had taken off from Taipei and was on the runway, with plumes of smoke rising from it.
Pictures posted on Twitter showed passengers jumping down the inflatable emergency slides and leaving the area.
Firefighters and rescue teams are at the scene. The cause of the emergency is not known.

Personally, I think it's best we leave the investigation to the appropriate authorities and not the media.

Well said Mike.  And not just the media, I haven't looked but I'll bet all the experts on airliners.net are spouting their usual drivel about why this accident happened.

New footage has come to light that shows emergency vehicles at the scene of the Asiana plane crash in San Francisco in July 2013.

One of the passengers, Chinese teenager, Ye Mengyuan, was hit twice by emergency vehicles on the airport tarmac, according to the US National Transportation Safety Board.

The airline involved in last year's San Francisco crash has been ordered to pay $500,000 (£300,000) for failing to assist family members of passengers.

The US Department of Transportation issued the penalty - a first of its kind - saying Asiana Airlines failed to notify family members soon enough after the crash.

The agency said the South Korean carrier lacked translators and personnel trained in crash response.
