Hi all,

I see logs coming through from various airport user group with active display being used.

So the question is:

Can Active Display be used in conjunction with a DVB-T Dongle and rtl1090 ?

Thanks in advance.

I think you'll need a Basestation.sqb file and message decoding software to update it and provide decoded data on port 30003.

RTL1090 can provide the port 30003 data but, to the best of my knowledge, it can't update the basestation.sqb.

There may be a utility that will allow Basestation to be used with non-SBS receivers but I have no experience of it.

But you can always download the free AD Lite and experiment.

Thanks

Sonicgoose in his blog (HERE) shows how to do it :)

Now it runs with Basestation at home, and adsbSCOPE when out and about.

Why not when "out and about"?

Or are you not interested in the database?

I have experimented with BS + ADL on my battery and they tend to run a battery down somewhat faster than adsbSCOPE does.

With the scope I can get 3.5/4 hours out of the battery whereas with BS +ADL it reduces to about 2.5 hours.

At LHR yesterday I managed between 09:45 - 12:23.

also I have no internet connection whilst out and about so all aircraft seen do not update correctly unless they are already in the DB. It appears that ADL needs a connection to connect to the GAS site, but from what I understand it does not retrospectively populate the aircraft that are not fully populated.  Is this not correct?

Maybe copy the basestation.sqb file to the laptop, go mobile and gather some new aircraft.  Return home, copy the sqb file back to the desktop (replace existing) and then run ADL?

I only have it on my laptop only.

The question then is, If an aircraft (example OE-LAX) pops up overhead and on basestation whilst out it does not populate the logo or on ADL, will it when I get home populate the logo when I return home and re-connect to the tinterweb ?

Also, with ADSBscope, you can click on an aircraft and it saves a log called airframeselect-yyymmdd.txt, this lists all those you see (visually), I don't think Basestation does that (note to developers this might be an enhancement), if it does I haven't seen how to do it.

From a look, it only shows what is in each session.

An example is that there are a lot more aircraft captured by Basestation and adsbScope that are visibly seen.

I like to click on a aircraft as a back up to my manual notes.

In BS Reporter you can select flights between any start date/time and stop date/time.

BasestationReporter is a "view" of the Basestation.sqb file which records sessions and aircraft.

The aircraft record is just that - details about the aircraft.  Hex code and, if entered, type, registration, owner etc.

The session record is a record of all "flights" received during a session, linked to the aircraft record.
