Passengers hit out after being left stranded overnight at French airport as Ryanair cancel flight due to bad weather .

AROUND 200 passengers were due to fly from Beauvais to Prestwick on Monday night - but their plane never turned up leaving them stranded and without accommodation.

HUNDREDS of Scots yesterday claimed they were abandoned in a French airport after their flight home was cancelled.

Furious passengers say staff at Beauvais airport, near Paris, told them they might have to wait until Friday for the next plane back to Prestwick.

Around 200 travellers were due to fly from Beauvais on Monday night – but their aircraft didn't turn up.

Operators Ryanair cancelled the 11.05pm Prestwick flight due to bad weather but passengers claim the airline failed to make alternative arrangements for them.

There were no buses laid on to take them to hotels and only a handful of taxis around as the airport closes at midnight.

"With cancelled flights, you won't receive compensation if:

the cancellation was due to extraordinary circumstances for example due to bad weather..."

"For cancellation due to extraordinary circumstances you may not have the right to compensation, the carrier must still offer you either:

a ticket refund (in full or just the part you have not used)
alternative transport to your final destination at the earliest opportunity or
rebooking at a later date of your choice (subject to seat availability).

Even in extraordinary circumstances, airlines must provide assistance when necessary, while you are waiting for alternative transport."

Ryanair spokesman Robin Kiely said: "All Prestwick passengers were provided with accommodation vouchers in Paris and will be re-accommodated on the next available flights."

Passengers also said Ryanair had no staff at Beauvais but airport workers tried to get travellers on to flights to Manchester and Edinburgh.

A bit of a non-story really.
