Airport emergency after pilot makes mayday call

An emergency was declared at an island airport yesterday after an Eastern Airways flight reported difficulties.

The pilot of the Saab 2000 – which was carrying 35 oil workers – made a Mayday call at around 5.10pm.

Emergency services were scrambled to Shetland's Sumburgh Airport, but later stood down after the flight, which was heading to Aberdeen, landed safely.
