Well, having spent several hours this morning testing and fiddling the results are, unfortunately, inconclusive.

I connected my SBS-1 to my main PC and ran it powered from USB, using external chimney mounted antenna, filtering on interested only on both the list and the screen, this resulted in a correct display. I tried external power - same result.

I then moved back to the Netbook and again achieved what I was expecting to see.

The only thing I haven't done is test using my mag mount antennas, but I don't think there is a problem with those as I checked both previously, plus the BNC seems fine as the above test proved.

The only thing I did notice (on the Netbook) was that under the Display Settings >> Data Files, I had all items ticked, I have now pruned those down significantly. Would that have any effect on the display - I'm wondering if the processing load of all of those airfields, FA's, holds etc might have overloaded my Netbook especially in area of high traffic - any thoughts?

More testing at an airport is needed I think.  ???

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Smudger was experiencing Basestation errors which was resolved by adding more memory and pruning his OperatorFlags folder.

Did you experience the aircraft disappearing when you ran the recent tests?

No, only after 'signal lost' time-out. My op flags folder contains about 3700 images, same on my main PC and Netbook also, same SQB file on both, no errors seen on the main PC.

Can we assume the SBS-1 is OK and the Netbook "introduces" the issue?

Not sure to be honest, the results from this morning don't really help me - I couldn't replicate the issue I had the other day. Hence I think I need to do more testing when I can see lots of ground traffic.

Maybe I'll borrow a laptop and install Basestation on that and use that as a test next time I'm out.
