I've always wondered how Planefinder had such good coverage in some locations and now I know why.

I've been watching EZY58YE, Southend to Alicante, on finals at 15:28 UTC, Friday 13th December 2013.  This was on FR24.

But on Planefinder, at exactly the same time, this aircraft is shown flying overhead Cartagena at 22,050 feet.

It's been at the same height, heading south west  for 16 minutes.  Then I noticed the last update time of 15:12:17.

I'd read somewhere that Planefinder "caches" flights for up to 30 minutes after the contact is lost when an aircraft is at a high altitude.  But this is the first time I've seen this for myself.

This can make a big difference when comparing tracking apps and websites and is quite worrying.  And to think I bought the Planefinder app.

See for yourself.

There is no substitute for having your own receiver!
Bit like football on the telly versus going to the match :)

But I don't live in Alicante.
