Airports can be treacherous and demoralizing obstacles. During the holidays, they can be even worse. Fraught with long lines, bad smells and irritating noises, they have been known to bring mankind down to its knees and beg for mercy. Patricia Magana of SmarterTravel recently came out with a list of the eight worst airports for the holidays, broken up into categories.

Now, you could hang your head and be resigned to your doom if you are traveling through one of these airports this year ... or, you could do something about it. You can't control a whole lot inside of an airport, but there are ways you can make the experience better. And, let's be honest, making the experience just a little better may have prevented Uncle Carl from entering mid-life crisis at the airport last year. Here are the worst airports for the holidays and what you can do to combat those dark, menacing forces.
