I wish... I wish that all those using Basestation who never bought a Kinetic product would offer to donate an appropriate sum to provide funds for to start work on the wish list.

There must be hundreds out there using Basestation with other products - I see that Radarcape is soon to be offered with the facility to run Basestation directly.

Maybe what is needed is Developers to spend a good amount of time upgrading the software rather than minor updates and at the same time they could lock it into the SBS box firmware more securely so it needs SBS box to run.

I'd go as far as saying, make base station a separate product:

1 for SBS family and locked to SBS, but fully featured.
1 for non-SBS, basic functionality or two versions older than above but unlocked.

To fund and maintain development, separate BaseStation from SBS, and have it as a paid for upgrade product after your first year.

Its a nice idea and there are some 3rd party products out there very useful while others are for those who almost monitor every aspect of a flight and type.
Its all very well using the fund card as a basis for software development, but you'll notice some of our smarter programmes have been done by those magnanmous individuals who gift it to us.
i for one have offered to offset costs incurred by these developers and they ENJOY the projects they engage in. afterall for most of us even if its obsessive - its still a hobby thus they view it that way too.
Whereas Kinetic and another are in this for a business venture which is why companies like RDBox etc are floundering because they get greedy and the market is very specific and inherently specialised.
Most of us have enjoyed aviation for many years/decades and while new technology has without doubt enhanced our passion, we are still very canny when it comes to parting with our resources on a new venture.
to be fair Kinetic invested heavily (and probably did thorough market research) before presenting us with SBS and at first we were all hesitant both on pricing and what it actually offered. Now of course we have come to expect more bang for our buck.
I dont think weve reached a saturated market yet although go to LHR MAN,LUT or many other airports and like the radios of old when there was a cacophony of voices coming over airwaves we now now see spotters crouched over car boots and tailgates or hunched up on seats pouring over laptop screens.
Its made the interest more diverse and in some ways revolutionary (we can even armchair spot now) and I for one embrace it heartily. But I would assess that future developments seem to go down the route of range rather than display. So for a wish list, it would have so many permutations i pose the question. Would Chris or Kinetic or any other business really act upon our requests at this late stage?

I agree with you Viking9, and Dave_EGDR's two options also make sense to me.

I bought my SBS-1er direct from Kinetic and think the Basestation software is excellent, but obviously could be improved (what can't be?).

I also use Basestation with a dongle using third party software but do feel a tad guilty about it, if there was an option to purchase a separate Basestation license I would willingly have paid for it.

I guess Kinetic didn't anticipate the possibility of Basestation being used in the way it is.

How about Kinetic offering a 'donate' option for those who (like me) have taken advantage of running a second copy of Basestation independently of Kinetic hardware? That idea might be a non-starter and 'advertising' it might ruffle a few feathers, but hey, just sort of thinking aloud...

I don't think donations to Kinetic will influence the development of new Basestation features.

I produced the original Wish List 6 years ago at David Goodman's request.  There have been some enhancements, typically the ones that were easy to deliver.

Call me a cynic.
