What with AirNav giving away 50 RadarBoxes, Martin Lynch is now selling the RadarBox Pro for just £289, a massive £110 off the normal retail price!

Maybe The Beast and the new SBS-3 are affecting RadarBox sales?

On a related topic, I'm just finishing my initial comparison of the SBS-1eR and SBS-3 receivers and the results are quite interesting.  More to come later today.

Just checked the AirNav website and the RadarBox Pro is still showing the old price of £399.

Don't buy one from there!

Sleeping on this  I was wondering if there's a new RadarBox on the way and this price drop is to clear stocks of unsold Mark I receivers?

Maybe the new RadarBox will have a built-in radio and be Mlat capable?

Could it be because they now sell the SBS-3 and are clearing Radarbox stock?

They sold off the SBS-1er when they switched to Radarbox.

Good point.  I'll keep an eye on other RadarBox dealers and prices.

I ain't around a lot but I do read the forum occasionally and  it occurs to me that Airnav have plagerised the Kinetic product, this thought has struck me in the past as I have always felt that without the existence of the SBS the ANRB would not have emerged.

Here is a bit of interesting reading.

Well he would only deny it, I wonder if after devolution he will wander off south.

The reduction is only for the "Pro Version", the "3D model" remains at the normal price.
I didn't know that there was any difference technically until I traded my "Pro + the 3D disk" in. I had claimed that my old Pro + 3D disk = the 3D version, but the Essex dealership soon knocked a £100 off their expected trade in value saying that there was more advanced circuitry in the 3D version! Maybe they were right after all, and all the older "Pros" are being cleared from the shelves.
The 3D disk was offered originally as an upgrade @ around £90, I don't know if they are still being sold.

That sounds like a case for Essex Trading Standards.

I'm 99.99% sure the receiver's are the same spec and one can "upgrade" to the 3D package without the need for a receiver replacement.  Failing that, how can the 3D "software only Upgrade" be justified at £110?

Nothing in Waters & Stanton's promotional blurb to suggest the receiver has "advanced circuitry" and, knowing them as I do, I'm sure it would be a headline grabbing claim if it did.

"There is more excitement amongst RadarBox users and potential users now that the 3D version of the RadarBox is now available. This radical software upgrade brings to life the RadarBox with superbly detailed Google Earth mapping overlay. This is a major advantage that puts RadarBox firmly on top of it's competitors. Just look at these crisp, clear screenshots with the pictures of the aircraft in 3D and their precise position shown on the map. RadarBox has always given the best graphics of any system, and this latest addition really underlines the superiority of RadarBox. Known as RADARBOX-3D this complete system is available from all good communications dealers around the world. There is also an upgrade disc available for all existing users of RADARBOX-PRO, order this upgrade as RADARBOX-UG. RADARBOX-PRO is still available for those users who want a radar decoder without Google Earth and 3D."

Quotemore advanced circuitry in the 3D version

I hate to tell you this but you were totally misinformed by the dealer, the boxes are all exactly the same.
The price difference is for the 3D alone and has nothing to do with advanced circuitry.

I'm on first name terms with Essex Trading Standards' officers  ;)

When I installed the Radarbox software yesterday (version 4.03) on a 2009 Radarbox, it asked me if I wanted to upgrade to 3D for some extra cost. No mention of any hardware update needed - just pay your money, which I declined.
