RAF jets have intercepted a Latvian cargo plane amid reports of a "loud bang" in Kent.

The Antonov An-26 airliner was escorted by two Typhoon jets from RAF Coningsby and landed at around 5.15pm, a spokesman for Stansted airport told Sky News.

Police have searched the Russian-built plane, which is expected to continue its journey to Birmingham in the next hour.

I hope the airline has been billed for the cost of the two RAF aircraft being scrambled to investigate the non-responsive aircraft before it was allowed to take off again.   :)
