Be interesting to see if they can repair this.

Allegedly BA2276, B772 G-VIIO.

A British Airways plane bound for London has caught fire at Las Vegas airport, forcing the evacuation of 172 people on board on emergency slides.

Airport officials said at least 13 people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

US Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said the left engine of the Boeing 777-200 caught fire before take-off.

Hi Mike,

I thought the thinking about fire on aircraft engines suggested the pilot turned the aircraft so the prevailing wind blows the smoke and flames away from the cabin.
Also the last flight we were on with KLM to Amsterdam where we were in in the emergency exit seats over the wings, the briefing from the cabin crew to us, said not to open the emergency doors on that side of the aircraft if there was a fire on that side of the aircraft.
Looking at the photographs and videos of this incident, it looks like pilot did not turn the plane so he smoke was blown away from the cabin.  Also emergency chutes were deployed on the side of the aircraft facing the fire / smoke.
