From Bev at COAA:

Hi,

PlanePlotter version 6.4.4.1 is now available for download by following the link on the PlanePlotter web site.
http://www.planeplotter.com#download

---Usual boilerplate---
Updates are free to registered users.

You may need to exercise your browser Refresh function to force it to show you the new version of the PlanePlotter web page. If you post a message complaining that the web site is still pointing to an earlier version, you pay a forfeit !

You can install the new version over the old one but you *must* close/exit PlanePlotter before installing the new one. Your settings will be preserved. Nic's installer will warn you if PlanePlotter is still running when you try to install the new version.

If you have a version-specific firewall (eg Zone Alarm), you may have to reassure it that the new version is permitted to access the Internet. Be aware that some security systems treat any new file as a threat without any justification except that it is new. Please don't write to me about it; write to your security system provider.

If you have an installation of PlanePlotter running under Wine, this installer may not run. In that case (only), please download :
http://www.coaa.co.uk/planeplotter6_4_4_1.zip
and unzip the files into the existing PlanePlotter application directory. Note that this will only work if PlanePlotter is already installed as it only contains the new file and not all the other files that are required to run the program.
-----------
New in version 6.4.4.1

Manual Mlats

When you did a manual Mlat in previous versions, the request for raw data from other Ground Stations was sent through the server. In this version, the request is made directly to each Ground Station. This relieves the server of the load associated with the request but I am hoping that some routers, even if port forwarding has not been done, might see the outgoing packets and guess where to send the returning packets. The evidence is not 100% in favour but there is some optimism that it might work on some systems. Please be aware that correctly implemented port forwarding is still 100% required for any system that aspires to fulfill the role of Ground Station.

Plane Finder Radar receiver

This release of PlanePlotter supports the impending new Plane Finder Radar receiver. There is a new option in the Mode-S list box in Options..I/O settings. Initial testing of this receiver indicates that its performance is on a par with the other high-performing receivers for Mode-S and Mode-A//C.

ADSBspy update

This release supports the optional new firmware for the ADSBspy receiver that now adds the signal strength to the received data.

Registrations via sharing

If you enabled the option to accept registrations via sharing, in the past it could have overwritten a real registration with the .NO-REG remark if that arrived from a sharing user with no SQB database. This version will no longer overwrite a registration with .NO-REG even if it is received via sharing and updating is enabled.

Cosmetics

The Tools..Display ping log option no longer acquires a tick if no file was actually selected.

If you select Upload Only, it no longer shows "download failed" in the status bar every share cycle. The same symptom that used to appear during a manual Mlat will have disappeared as the server is no longer in the loop for a manual Mlat.

Enjoy!
Regards

The link to a zip file version in the post goes nowhere.

Thanks Ian.  You're right about the link which, as one can see, was taken off Bev's email.

But the Zip is only required for those running PP under Wine.

I've corrected the post to remove one of the spurious url links but the Zip is not available at time of posting this reply.

But it could have been my error.

Thanks for spotting it and letting us know.
