Been a shipspotter and plane enthusiast for years have recently decided to look into ads-b reception but have very limited funds due to being disabled and not working.

The cheapest option are the freeaircraft tracking websites - Flightradar24.com, Planefinder.net etc.

Then for just 25 Euros you can use PlanePlotter and share data from others with Mode-S receivers.

Have used both the planespotter and flightradar24 sites both excellent but some sharers are not 24/7 so when a plane goes over i have no idea what it is or where its going.

So would like to get set up myself and share i already have a mast up as i have an AIS receiving station.

I see MicroADSB listed under your post is that the dongle i have seen from Bulgaria if so is it any good for just seeing local stuff as a starter unit??

I dont know the origin of this dongle. I bought it from Ken Anderson last year. It works well for what i need, i use SBS-1 running home base 24/7 giving raw data to planeplotter, and use dongle when out and about at airfields around the UK

Thanks for that saw that there about £68 delivered people have said they are ok was thinking of trying one before spending more.

I haven't read any bad reports about the microADSB from Miro.

In addition to the receiver you'll need an antenna and, more than likely, a PlanePlotter licence at Euros 25 plus VAT (one-off fee).

As a quick and cheap way of getting started into the virtual radar hobby, the microadsb dongle is ok. The other option is now there are newer devices coming out. look for bargains of old SBS-1 boxes.

Yes that's a great idea thanks. The reason i say cheap to start is i am disabled and have very little money coming in which is why i want to start this hobby up. i cannot get to airports as often as i would like
