It would be interesting to know why they're being sold?  Both seem to be from aviation enthusiasts.

Probably running Piaware!

I have an SBS-1e sitting in a cupboard unused aince a Piaware setup took over, Still running an SBS-3 into PlanePlotte as an alternative for those unidentified Piaware plots. Also to receive ATC.

Let's see how much that SBS-1er goes for - might tempt several to cash in.

Replace all SBS with Pis?

Edit: two more out there: item # 273590515940 and 254009246155

Sell while there is still a market!

Hi Ian

Those were my thoughts too.

I have four RPi's running PiAware and one SBS.

There are 2 x SBS and 1 x RadarBox on a shelf.  One is for the cat's litter tray in due course.  :)

I cannot fault my Kinetic products at all,

The 1090 Puck i use gives great results and this time next year we should
start to see more visible aircraft,

I believe all transponders in commercial aircraft have to be turned on by 2020 so
there's life in the sbs yet,

Mine will still be on 24/7,

Lee.

Question for you Lee, with the puck, does it use diff software etc from the standard SBS1s, in other words, can I use all my current programs and settings that I use atm.
I have an SBS1 which I use with my laptop when at home using the roof aerial and I have an SBS1er that I use when I am mobile again with the same laptop.
Hope that make sense.
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve

The 1090Puck is the same as an SBS .  I can swap it with my SBS-1eR (or SBS-3) and it works the same with my existing BaseStation.

Thats great Mike, time to invest I think :)

Anmer

Not sure where you can buy the Puck now, other than used on eBay?

Sorry Steve,

Just seen you're post, Anmer is right the 1090 Pucks are quite rare but give Chris Taylor
a ring at Moonraker.eu (01908 281705) I believe he is now in milton keynes,

He is the kinetic man and you never know he might have one stashed somewhere ?

worth a shot,

Lee.

I've been looking on ebay for a Puck daily since August and haven't seen one yet.

There are frequently SBS1's and 1ER's that appear though.

Let's be controversial!

Why would you want an SBS-1/e/er, SBS-3, Puck if you don't already have one?

To use them you need a PC and an antenna. So why not just buy a Flightware Pro Stick Plus for £24?

Run dump1090 on the PC to capture input from stick.

If you want to run PlanePlotter, set up to get data from dump1090. [This is what I do]

If you want to run BaseStation, run ModeSMixer to convert dump1090 data to BS format

Or am I missing something?

Anmer

A Puck is a nice blue colour and round.  ;)
