Greetings from Scotland

Hello all!

As I am a new member here on this forum I thought I would quickly say hello and introduce myself.

I am originally from Canada (YVR) and have made Scotland my home (EDI). My first job was for a now-defunct airline – Wardair – in Toronto which is where a colleague introduced me to 'proper' plane spotting. Before I did take pictures whenever I found an advantageous spot but now I discovered the JP Airline Fleets book which guided me to tracking aircraft by registrations. Those were the days in the 90s on the top floor of the car park at YYZ T1 (no longer there) or the rooftop observation deck at FRA, armed with a pair of binoculars and pen and paper.

When I moved to Europe 13 years ago or so I learned about ADS-B and radars in general. I remember having a stopover at LHR for a few hours and taking a cab to ML&S store just south of the airport to buy my SBS-1eR. From that time on I was an early adopter feeding traffic to flightradar24 from Malta as LMML3 until I moved to Andorra where I shared traffic overflying the Pyrenees. Since there's no airport in the country my ID was LESU1 for the nearest airport across the border in Spain.

Now I am feeding from my new home of over three years in Edinburgh and still use Flightradar24 for most of my plane spotting.

Welcome Richard and thanks for an informative and interesting introduction.

Wardair I remember well, and being on the inaugral B744 flight from London to Toronto via Leeds Bradford.  BA positioned a B744 into LBA just before our arrival just to spoil it.  The crowds at LBA were quite a sight.  I think it wass 1984?
