Can anyone help me with this?

I have an old 'Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T USB 2.0 External PCTV Tuner Card' that I no longer have software for, also it will not install or work with my current laptop which is Windows 7.

I have adsbscope already.

Can this be converted into a ADS-B receiver?

If so how can I do it?

It all depends on the tuner chip that is inside and its capabilities to tune to the frequency. You might have to take off the casing to find out which chip it has, then do a search on say google with the chipset number and ads-b and some results should come up, even if its just to say it won't work. The main ones usable are the R820T and E4000

Thanks, I'm now home from work and had a look.

It appears to have a label of ENV57H12D5 on the casing around the box where the ariel socket attached and the words www.pedeu-panasonic.de on it.

I tried a google but it's not come up with anything.

I won't have it on all the time so it would be criminal of me to take one and not supply data regularly.

I am saving for a GNS 5890.

So i was thinking that my old WinTV Nova T USB 2 would be a stopgap.

I found a few places that say the wintv nova will not work as sdr so little chance for adsb,

I have a few, though i haven't compared it to the GNS 5890 but compared to the Beast i'm pretty impressed for the price. It will work with plane ploter and almost all the other adsb programs like basestation, globeS etc.

I'd buy a DVB-T USB stick and save some money.

I found the DVB-T performed as well if not better than the GNS.

A lot of money in that case, the cheapest i've seen the gs5890 is 99 quid(no pound sign on my keyboard) for the difference you could get some good cable and an antenna for the DVB-T and make it even better

Looks like for £10-15 I can get a Realtek RTL2832U R820T MCX, get good coverage and start off easy. Thing is I will have it on my laptop so mostly it'll be either when I am at work (if I can put my laptop out of site of the boss), when I am at home (sitting near the window) or when I visit LCY, LGW or LHR for a few hours.

What would you suggest for cable and Antenna?  I may need a long cable when in the office.

Money is limited is the only other issue.

The antenna location is important.  It needs to "see" as much sky as possible.  Hiding it from the boss may be a challenge.

One option that I have yet to try is using a USB extension cable between the PC and DVB-T USB stick.  It should work and gives you the option to place the antenna in a better location, away from the PC.

I dont know about the Maplin cable or DVB-T, but my 10m USB cable is handling up to 4 ADSB receivers at the same time - two dongles, a transponder mouse and a GNS - all with plenty of traffic.
