Hi triple7 thanks for the reply there is some progress but still not working, this is what comes up in the modesmixer2 window

Hi Dean,

You mentioned you can connect to your SBS-1er when using BaseStation I assume the IP address of your SBS is the default one of 192.168.1.170 and your local network is using the same structure / subnet?

The error messge infers MSM2 cannot find your SBS so I would check the network settings first to make sure everythnng is using the same structure. Can you Ping your SBS?

Hi Tim,

pinged the SBS-1eR at 192.168.1.170

C:\Users\User>ping 192.168.1.170

Pinging 192.168.1.170 with 32 bytes of data:

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.170:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 2ms, Average = 1ms

so that works and that is feeding my host pc BaseStation using the network source 192.168.1.170:10001

I changed the .bat script to

@echo off
cmd /c c:/modeSmixer2/modesmixer2.exe --inConnect 127.0.0.1:10001 --outServer sbs10001:10001
PAUSE
exit

and i get this when i run it

so that works and that is feeding my host pc BaseStation using the network source 192.168.1.170:10001

If I am reading this correctly you are conencting one PC directly to the SBS which means the feed is locked, as you have found, you can normally only use the SBS feed with one copy of BaseStation hence why you want to use MSM2. That probably exaplins why MSM2 gave the error you mentoned before.

You need both of your PC's running BaseSataion to point at the IP address of the feed from MSM2 - see Faramir's post earlier.

127.0.0.1:10001 is probably the correct IP address to enter in BaseStation - Settings>>Hardware settings, Network tab on the PC running MSM2. But the other PC will need to use correct IP of the machine running MSM2. You can use the true IP address of the host machine on both copies of BaseStaion if you like.

Try the above and see. I have a feeling that you won't get any data on either machine as I am fairly sure MSM2 needs the IP addess of the SBS in its command line otherwise it won't know where to look to grab the data stream. If you have your SBS connected directly to the first PC (via cross-over cable perhaps?) then the 127.0.0.1 address should work, but I suspect your SBS is elsewhere and attached to your LAN via the router?

Hi Tim that is correct the SBS-1eR is connected via LAN to my router not directly to the host pc

the basestation on the host PC is connected via 192.168.1.170 port 10001 which as you say is the default the datastream and is working fine.

As you say any attempts from any other pc to connect to 192.168.1.170 seem to be blocked.

Are you using a cross-over cable? Can i just buy one? and connnect the SBS-1eR to my host I think I have had it for today I really appreciate all your help thanks you so much

maybe if you explain your set up I can duplicate it

All the best

Dean

I'm sure Tim will confirm but you need to close down the Basestation session that's connected to 192.168.1.170 port 10001.  It's this connection that's blocking MSM2 from connecting to your SBS-1eR.

Basically, this is the required connection "map":

SBS-1eR <- MSM2 <- Basestation sessions(s)

The IP address and port for the SBS-1eR are fixed at 192.168.1.170:10001.

With MSM2 running and connected to the SBS-1eR, the Basestation Network connection(s) will use the local IP address of the PC running MSM2 and the assigned port.

No need for a crossover cable the way you have things is just fine!

My set-up is SBS in loft connected via LAN cable to a PLA (Power Line Adaptor). Router is downstairs next to the master socket. Second PLA connects directly into one of the Router's LAN ports. That's the (relevant) hardware bit.

Now the software bits and the area I believe is causing you the problem.

I have 2 PC's, a Desktop and a Laptop. The desktop runs MSM2 with a command line as below. Both run BaseStation and importantly, both have the LAN settings pointing at the MSM2 feed. So, in my case 192.168.1.67 - see image attached. That's the Desktop PC but I have elected to use the full IP address of that machine so it's clear to me where it is looking. As I noted before, the 127.0.0.1  (local host) should work OK for the machine running MSM2 – but not the second one.

@echo off
cmd /c  modesmixer2.exe --inConnect 192.168.1.170:10001 --outServer sbs10001:10001
PAUSE
exit

So, I agree with Anmer your issue is that BaseStation is using the IP address of the SBS and therefore locking the feed for anything else - you need to change the network settings to suit your main PC, replacing the 192.168.1.67 in my image attached with the correct IP address of your main machine (or use 127.0.0.1) and on the second PC you must use the IP address the main machine - 192.168.1.67 in my case. I am sure if you reset the network settings in BaseStation and revert back to the original MSM2 command line as above, things will spring into life and you will have a very satisfied grin on your face :-)

Once again thanks Tim and Anmer,

So I closed the basestation session on the host pc 192.168.1.226, that i had running connected to 192.168.1.170:10001 this was obviously blocking the MMS2 from connection to the SBS-1eR.

I start MMS2 with this script
@echo off
cmd /c  c:/modeSmixer2/modesmixer2.exe --inConnect 192.168.1.170:10001 --outServer sbs10001:10001
PAUSE
exit

the green light is not on on SBS-1eR
it is only on if I connect directly to 192.168.1.170:10001

I have tried starting the host pc with basestation to connect to 192.168.1.170:10001 green light is on
I switch over to 192.168.1.226
start MMS2
i lose the data but basestation says its connected

Doh!!!!!

I think I'll try again tomorrow

When you state:

Quotemy laptop logs in

What are you running on your laptop that "logs in"?

What is the local IP address of the PC running MSM2?

If you have MSM2 successfully connecting to your SBS-1eR (which it appears to be), then your Basestation setup should use the IP address of the MSM2 PC, as explained in Tim's last message.  Make sure Basestation has Data Source set to "Use Network".
Here to Help.

Triple7

Just to clarify. You only need to run MSM2 on one PC. It looks like you might be trying to run a copy on both your laptop 192.168.1.217 and your main machine 192.168.1.226 - don't!

Just fire up MSM2 on your main machine, make the changes to BaseStation on boith machines and try that.

Basestation, network settings 192.168.1.226:10001 this is the IP of the host pc

yes i am only running MMS2 on the host

I just tried using the laptop as the host (just running MMS2 on that) and again both connect but no data coming into either basestation session

does this mean I have to remove completely MMS2 from the laptop? I have only been running it on one machine at a time ie which ever is the the host mainly the 226 the PC

Maybe I've got this wrong but in MSM2 you've set the outgoing ports to 49775 and 52000.

Should your Basestation connection use one of those ports and not 10001?
